I am a extreme anime lover, and this only phrase should make you understand why I wrote that title for this post. First things first, though. I am not that great player when it comes with video games, some do fascinate me, but my biorythm suggests me to stop even after the first initial 15 minutes of gameplay, which is indeed a no-go for first person shooters, where to achieve a goal you have to stay in front of your monitor for at least one hour. I just cannot stand it: I do really feel sick, and the sickening feeling is magnified by the disappointment that I will never be able to finish an FPS, at least not during my lifetime.
Said that, I was jawdropped by the preview of the latest EA game, Mirror’s Edge. What astonished me was not the series of ingame small videos, really cool to watch and all (they are only a few minutes each, so I did manage to watch them all without puking my lunch over the keyboard…), but the presence of some “explanation” video made in cartoon style. I went “WOW!” looking at them, and admiring the good quality the movies where made with.
I am no “cartoon expert”, and I know there are OVAs and cartoon movies that make these Mirro’s Edge previews just blush in shame, but all in all, they are great to watch and really get you in the “mood” of the game.
I’ve seen many OVAs, many cartoon movies (Walt Disney’s, Pixar…. and so on) and my favourites are all coming from Japan. I’ve loved “Sin City“, both the strips and the movie (I prefer the movie…) and I really feel that the storyline, the plot, the characters would really fit inside a movie. I’d love to see that.
I guarantee I’d watch it over and over again, like I did when I first saw AKIRA. I lost the count of the times I played it on my old VCR, everytime discovering new details, new hidden particulars… I just love that OVA. Just in the same way I’d love a Mirror’s Edge OVA.
Anyway, this is probably the first game I am buying in years. Just to see how much time I can stand playing without vomiting…
